Falcon
Falcon (Part one of Eye of the bird series) By Nathan Cornwell I perched in the tree. The enormous pond was across the road. I could see a flock of shorebirds. Food. I was hungry. My instincts told me to fly. I was hungry. I needed food. I flew. My lithe form cut through the air as my powerful pointed wings propelled me towards the flock of shorebirds. As I passed over the pond, there was a sharp upswing in the noise level. Several Canada Geese fled at the sight of me, honking frantically. A flock of Green-Winged Teals also took alarm. They were small enough for me to catch, but they were all healthy. I flew on. As I neared the shorebirds, I gained height. I flew directly over them and dove. Pure joy coursed through my being, canceling out the hunger pangs. I whistled towards the shorebirds and the finally flew. I spotted a sick Dunlin and screamed towards him. I missed. I rolled and dove once again. He evaded me! He escaped with the flock. I flew towards the other end of the pond. I needed to rest before I tried again. The above story was witnessed by the author.
