17th Annual WILDBIRD Photo Contest Winners

GRAND PRIZE: Ben Sosniecki of Chanhassen, Minn., captured the grand prize of a Canon EOS 20D camera in WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with his image of a Great Gray Owl after the bird tried to snatch some prey from the grass.  INTERNATIONAL 2ND PLACE: David Drake of Brooklyn, N.Y., won first place in the international category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with his digiscoped image of a Purple Honeycreeper at Asa Wright Nature Center on Trinidad. He received an Audubon Equinox 8x42.   INTERNATIONAL 3RD PLACE: Eleanor Briccetti of El Cerrito, Calif., won second place in the international category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with her picture of a Helmeted Guineafowl in Kenya. She received a Audubon Raptor 8x42. 
AMATEUR 1ST PLACE: Doris Dumrauf of Coraopolis, Pa., won first place in the amateur category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with her photo of a Tufted Titmouse as it visited three feeders in her back yard. She received an Eagle Optics Platinum Class Ranger 8x42.  AMATEUR 2ND PLACE: Dan Logen of Stanwood, Wash., won second place in the amateur category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with this picture of a Double-crested Cormorant building a nest near the Anhinga Trail in the Florida Everglades. Dan received an Eagle Optics 7x32 Denali.  AMATEUR 3RD PLACE: Alberto Gutierrez won third place in the amateur category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with his photo of a female Pyrrhuloxia visiting a waterhole at San Pedro Ranch in Texas. He received an Eagle Optics 8x25 Triumph. 
BACKYARD 1ST PLACE: Robert J. Fisher of Corpus Christi, Texas, won first place in the backyard category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with this image of a Golden-fronted Woodpecker investigating grapefruit. He received a Droll Yankee Flipper feeder. BACKYARD 2ND PLACE: Juan Bahamon of Corpus Christi, Texas, won second place in the backyard category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with his picture of a female Purple Martin bringing a plump dragonfly to her chicks. He received a Droll Yankee Big Top Green feeder.   BACKYARD 3RD PLACE: Flora Marlatt of Galena, Ohio, won third place in the backyard category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with her picture of a Blue Jay feeding on raw peanuts in her back yard. She received a Droll Yankee Sunflower Domed Cage feeder.  
WATER BIRDS 1ST PLACE: Rob Palmer of Johnstown, Colo., won first place in the water birds category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with his image of a family of Common Goldeneyes swimming during the early morning. He received a Leupold Golden Ring 8x42.   WATER BIRDS 2ND PLACE: John Horm of Annapolis, Md., won second place in the water birds category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with his picture of a Green Heron in a classic pose in the Florida Everglades. He received a Wind River Katmai 8x32.  WATER BIRDS 3RD PLACE: Wil Hershberger of Hedgesville, W.Va., won third place in the water birds category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with his image of a female Anhinga as she dried her wings at Wakodahatchee Wetlands near Boynton Beach, Fla. He received a Wind River Mesa 8x23.  
FLIGHT 1ST PLACE: Alan Murphy of Houston, Texas, won first place in the flight category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with his image of a Ruby-throated Hummingbird. He received a Bushnell Elite 8x43.   FLIGHT 2ND PLACE: Randall Ingalls of Walton, Ore., won second place in the flight category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with his picture of an immature Bald Eagle at Fern Ridge Dam near Eugene. He received a Bushnell 7x42 Discoverer. FLIGHT 3RD PLACE: Stephen Kent of Boxborough, Mass., won third place in the flight category of WildBird's 17th annual photo contest with his image of a Sandhill Crane as it returned to its roost at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. He received a Bushnell 8x42 Legend.
